What's Valentine's Day without some flower, chocolates and a sweetheart letter? If you agree then you may want to find this unique LEGO Friends set.

Around Valentine’s day, LEGO tries to make an effort to release a few small sets to honor the occasion. These usually take the form of polybag sets. They are affordable and make nice gifts.

For 2012, Target is carrying a special set that features Stephanie, a character from LEGO’s new Friends line. This line has been acknowledged as sets designed for girls. So take a look how this set stacks up and whether its worth the trouble of finding it.

Building Mailbox, a LEGO Friends Set

You will put together two small elements. The first is a mailbox. It has a lime green bottom, red box with white door, and a pink top. This is a simple functional element that could have used some better color choices.

The second creation is the flower/candy stand. The display is nicely sloped with a hinge brick. This helps display the flowers and candy for sale. This leads up to the sign on top which has a prominent heart design. This is both stylish and tastefully done.

Playing with Mailbox, a LEGO Friends Set

For such a small set you have a variety of things to do with it. You can remove the flowers or candy from the stand. The candy is placed on a two-by-two plate which is only secured by a single stud to make it easy to get off. Then you can have Stephanie place her letter or retrieve her letter from the mailbox. In addition, you can put Stephanie to work at the stand by standing behind it. Pretty good variety considering the price.

Interesting Parts of Mailbox, a LEGO Friends Set

The parts you might want out of this set are the box that makes up the majority of the mailbox and the pink slopes on top of it. These make really great options for accenting things like cakes or other brightly colored creations.

Then there is the hinge brick. They are always useful. The red modified plates that make the heart are nice. Finding them in red may not be easy for some people.

As for accessories, the envelop and two pearl gold telescopes are nice to have. In fact, the only questionable piece is the two-by-two round brick in lime green. It just seems to clash with the rest of the colors.

Minidolls in Mailbox, a LEGO Friends Set

The only minidoll in this set is Stephanie. This is a repeat minidoll that can also be found in Stephanie’s Cool Convertible. She has a magenta layered skirt with light flesh legs and magenta shoes. The shoes have white tops with magenta laces. Her torso is light flesh with a white halter top and stars pattern painted on. Her head is light flesh with light blue eyes and pink lips. The head is shaped in the new minidoll mold. Her hair is a bright light yellow and done in a long style with a flip at the end.

Unique Parts: 3.5 out of 5 Studs. The parts are not terribly unique. However, the colors are fairly uncommon for some of the parts.

Recommendations

Finding a bagged set can be a rather difficult situation. To make things easier, know that this set is found at Target and you can use the DPCI number to get customer service to help you. Unfortunately, you can’t use this number online since Target does not sell polybag sets online. This means you’ll have to go to a Target store to have someone look it up for you. The DPCI number is: 086-02-0064.
