There are very few times that LEGO set can claim to be both fun and functional. Recently, LEGO has released just such a set in Brick Calendar. This set is one of the first times a Calendar has been created out of LEGO for the public.
Unfortunately, this set is limited. The best way to get your hands on one is to either have an official LEGO store near you or purchase it off of LEGO’s web site. Secondary markets will be sure to charge more for this set despite its simple design.
Building Brick Calendar, a LEGO Limited Edition Set
This set is really nothing more than plates and bricks stacked together. The nice thing is the fact that this could be a learning experience for a younger builder just learning the days of the month and/or a novelty gift for a long-time LEGO fan.
The base consists of plates that are four studs wide. The rest of the build consists of bricks that are two studs wide. You may need a regular calendar on hand to get the numbers in the right spots.
If you are building a month that has less than thirty-one days, simply turn the unwanted numbered bricks sideways to show their white sides. Also make sure to keep the other bricks that feature the months you don’t need safe since you’ll need them throughout the year.
Playing with Brick Calendar, a LEGO Limited Edition Set
There are two minifigures that come with this set. They can be posed about the calendar. The real play comes with the rebuilding of each month. You may have to flip a brick around or re-order all the numbers. Needless to say, this model will change with each passing month.
Interesting Parts of Brick Calendar, a LEGO Limited Edition Set
There is no surprise to what people really want from this set. Those creators who only work with official LEGO pieces have been desperate for all the decorated bricks in this set. You not only get months on dual-sided bricks, but there are the days of the week and numbered bricks from one to thirty-one.
In addition, the minifigures are nothing to ignore either. Truthfully though, the painted bricks will have many builders purchasing multiple copies.
Minifigures in Brick Calendar, a LEGO Limited Edition Set
If the two minifigures look familiar, it’s because they are a reissue. They were two of the sixteen minifigures released in LEGO’s Collectible Minifigure series one. This first series happened to be under-printed so it is surprising to see these two again.
The first of these minifigures is the cheerleader. Her uniform is painted on her legs and torso. There is a smiling face and perky hair style. The real special part of this minifigure is her accessories. This is the first minifigure to have pompoms.
The second minifigure is the skateboarder. He has a bit of a bad boy expression with a fairly plain clothing design. His hair is tousled to match the self-satisfied smirk on his face. He comes with a skateboard with moving wheels.
